I joined the Otters team as a teacher in 2010 when I brought my eldest son to join Otters. Thanks to my swimming teacher, when I swam with the club, Mrs Wingate, who was still teaching with the club: she saw me and said I would make a good teacher to replace her when she retired from the club. That was where it started, I was roped in, completing my Level 1 the following year, and taking over Mrs Wingate’s swimming group. In 2012, I completed my Level 2 Teaching Award and became Vice-chairman of the club. I have also completed my Water Polo Teaching Award.

I have been volunteering with Otters since my daughter started swimming with Otters, I started as an in-pool helper, this then developed to me taking the Level 1 teaching assistant course and then during the height of the pandemic I agreed to go on to do my Level 2 teaching qualification. I love teaching, seeing our swimmers achieve their goals and overcome fears. I also help with the Water Polo team, it's not a sport I have ever played so am really loving learning a new skill. Over the past few years I have loved seeing our swimmers go from strength to strength and develop through the club from being 4 years old and non-swimmers to being teenagers completing their Rookie Lifeguarding certificates and becoming our next batch of in pool helpers and the next generation of teachers with the club.

I have been the club's treasurer for since 2019. My daughter swims with the club and my wife George is one of the teachers. If you need any help or advice regarding payment of fees or accessing Club Organiser please contact me.

I joined Otters when I was 5 years old. When I was 12, I started to assist in the water with the young swimmers, which I continue to this day. I then became a poolside assistant completing all the little jobs around the pool and behind the scenes to help your children learn to swim to the best of their ability. I love looking after the swimmers: watching the progress they make each week is the biggest reward. I have recently completed my Level 1 Teaching Assistant qualification, and I’m well on my way to get my Level 2. I am very thankful for the support the club has offered me, as I continue to progress. It’s now my turn to give back and teach the next generation of Otters and I look forward to working with you all.

I am a Level 1 teacher. I joined Horncastle Otters 18 years ago when my daughter started swimming lessons and I have been a part of the Committee for over 12 years. (My daughter started swimming lessons with Otters at the age of 4 years old who progressed through all swimming stages and RLSS Lifeguard medals and eventually also became a Level 2 swimming teacher with Otters). I enjoy chatting with our members and parents and welcoming new members to our swimming club. I enjoy getting in the water to support the younger swimmers who are less confident, nervous or anxious and seeing the enjoyment by all at our summer gala and presentation evenings.

I started swimming with a teaching club in London when I was 5 years old and progressed to competitive swimming due to a natural love of the sport. I took my first teaching quals when I was just 16 and volunteered with my local club, just like our amazing young volunteers at Otters. I became a level 2 teacher many years ago and have been teaching with Otters since moving from London in 2004 when my children were 9 and 5. My oldest is now 26 and is also now a teacher with the club! I love swimming and I love teaching (and I love kids of all ages), so it is no chore for me to be involved with the club. I wish only to pass on my passion for the sport, my absolute belief in the benefits of volunteering at all levels and all ages and my bursting enthusiasm for social sports!

I have been volunteering with Otters since 2022, when my daughter started having lessons with the Club. Initially an in-pool helper, I completed my Level 1 Teaching qualification and in 2025 qualified as an SEQ Level 2 Teacher. What started out as wanting to support the Club in a small way has become a passion for helping to deliver inclusive, fun and affordable swimming lessons for children in our local area. It is so rewarding to see children develop and accomplish things they thought they couldn't - be that obtaining a distance badge, daring to swim without a float or just getting in the pool on a day they weren't feeling confident. As a parent to two young children myself, I think it's brilliant that our Club exists, is so friendly and supportive to participants and their families, and would encourage anyone local to get involved - for safety, health and fun reasons!

After retiring from full-time employment I was pleased to be persuaded to come along to Otters and initially help in pool with the very youngest and newest children to the pool. As a former swimming teacher from the years before my career in Estate Agency, it didn't take me long to think I might be more use if I renewed my swimming qualification. So, I have recently taken the level 1 Swimming Teaching Assistant course. I love to be in the water especially with the children who need that one to two, one to one help to master a skill or overcome a fear.
